The Director of the Staff Development Program is specifically designed to prepare
licensed nurses for duties as the Director of Staff Development in a Skilled Nursing
Facility or as an instructor in a precertification programs for certified nursing
assistants (CNAs). (Some states refer to Director of Staff Development as Staff
Development Coordinator).

Students attending the program will receive training in planning, implementing, and
evaluating nurse education program. Specifically, students will learn how to develop
and maintain training records, draft course outlines and lesson plans, develop long
range and short range training plans, and how to conduct training.

The twenty-four hour (24) training program is offered entirely online and students
may complete the course by attending classes on “Friday, Saturday, and Sunday” or
on three consecutive Fridays.

This training program meets the requirements for licensure as a Director of Staff
Development in a Skilled Nursing Facility and instructor in a precertification program
for CNAs and is offered through West Haven University School of Nursing. (California
Board of Registered Nursing BRN CEP No. 13265).   
Director of Staff Development Course (DSD)

DSD Qualifications:

To qualify as a DSD, the candidate must be an RN or LVN and satisfy one of the
following:

Option 1: Have one-year experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient
care in a long-term care facility, IN ADDITION to having one-year of experience in
planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs.

Option 2: Have two-years full time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one of
which must be in the providing of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
SCHEDULE OF ONLINE CLASS
Course work will be assigned and completed offline.

What do you expect after registration:

Approximately 1 week before course begins, you will receive an e-mail to the link to the lecture
hall of West Haven University, user name and password for the online classes.

How the online class works:
1. This is a live online course of instruction where you interact with the instructor and other
participants.
2. When you log into the lecture hall, the instructor will welcome you to the class and provide a
brief tutorial.
3. You interact by reading what is presented by the instructor and other students and typing your
own response or questions.
4. The training program is 24-hours in length and that includes online lectures (approximately 3
hours each of the three days and 5 hours of course assignments that are completed
independently).
5. Upon successfully completing the course, a Certification of Completion, suitable for framing,
and two official transcript of records from West Haven University will be mailed to you.

Cancellation Policy:
Registration fees paid are nonrefundable. Rescheduling is allowed with no additional fee.
